COMMON ISSUES WHEN WORKING FROM HOME
Working from home has lots of benefits like having flexibility, freedom, comfort, being able to choose your hours, not having to commute and even what you wear. However, there are some downfalls to running your business from home and you can end up in an unproductive environment.
- Distractions:
There are always distractions anywhere you work. However, it can be easier to be distracted when you are working from home. It can be easy to fall into the trap of watching TV, going on your phone, doing household chores or get distracted by family members. These distractions can have a great impact on your productivity. The more distracted you are the less you will get done so try and limit distractions as much as possible. Create a workspace that you will only associate with work with the least amount of distractions as possible.
- Trying To Do Everything Yourself:
When you work from home, it can give you the feeling that you are on your own and don’t have the support. This can make you want to do everything yourself which can get overwhelming, even if you are good at working independently. If you have a remote team, make sure to utilize them throughout the day, especially if you have questions or are struggling tasks. Set yourself a schedule for the day with deadlines so you know what needs to be done for the day.

- Overworking:
Setting your own hours at home can put you in danger of overworking and burning yourself out. Or can be the opposite, working less because you can set your own hours. Sometimes working fewer hours is ok, it depends on how efficient you are in the time you work. A lot of the time, when people overwork at home, it’s because they aren’t being efficient enough throughout the day or they just can’t disconnect. Having a consistent schedule is the best way to work productively. Map out what you want to achieve for the day and the tasks to be completed and schedule breaks. It’s all about working smarter, not harder.
- Lack of Motivation:
One of the biggest challenges of working from home is having a lack of motivation. It can be hard to differentiate between your home life and your work life and sometimes you can fall into an un-motivational slump. Think about why you are working from home and the good things about working from home. If you want to be successful working from home you need to overcome the urge to slack off and keep your motivation at a high level. Find what motivates you and hold on to that.
Remember to stay focused and don’t lose sight of why you are working from home. If you get lost, evaluate your current situation, make a list and plan for the future to keep things on track.
